Attacks and Countermeasures: A Study of Network Attack Classes and Security Components to Protect Against Them
Category: Security
Tags: security software, security policy, software, network
Overview There are many types of network attacks, and security solutions to address almost all of them. Most attack types fall into three major categories: attacks on integrity, attacks on confidentiality or attacks on availability. Though no security solution can protect completely, there are solutions that, when implemented properly, can reduce the number of successful attacks and effectively deal with attacks that do penetrate or circumvent the security implementation. These solutions include security policy development, user education and security software solutions. This paper discusses the various classes of attacks, the attack types included in each class, and security countermeasures effective against the attacks.
