Intrusion Detection and Prevention Systems In-Depth

Category: Security

Tags: ips

Overview A significant security problem for networked systems is hostile intruders. Intruders can range from non-authorized personnel penetrating a system's access controls for malicious intent to authorized personnel abusing his/hers privileges by exploiting and exposing a system's vulnerability. A good counter measure for this type of threat is implementing an Intrusion Detection System (IDS) or an Intrusion Prevention System (IPS). These detection systems are specifically designed to monitor, detect, and react in real time to prevent malicious attacks. These detection systems range from host-based to network-based as well as wireless-base (WIDS/WIPS). There are some pros and cons that come along with these detections systems.
