Overview The Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 (SOX) was passed in reaction to the disastrous financial collapses of that period. It was designed to avert financial improprieties in public corporations by requiring officers and managers to certify financial reports. Its intent was to change the behavior and structure of American corporations. One result has been that IT departments throughout the United States have had to respond, sometimes extensively and radically, in support of this legislation. This paper explains some of the ways that SOX has affected IT departments and how IT departments can use a service desk to respond positively to SOX.
