Quality of Service and Service Level Agreements

Overview In order for advanced applications in modern computer networks to function satisfactorily, there is often the need for a guaranteed network performance and guaranteed values for several network parameters. When the provisioning and usage of network services is agreed, relevant specifications for the level of the services are also defined. This paper deals with the topic of Quality of Service and describes the Service Level Agreements. It discusses the rationale for their necessity and defines the basic parameters that have to be taken into account when such agreements are created.
