An Experiment of Controlling Gigabit Wide Area Ethernet by GMPLS Supporting Layer-2 Switching Capability

Overview High speed and large capacity Ethernet technologies have been developed as represented by Gigabit Ethernet (GE) and 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GE). Currently, due to the growth of Ethernet technologies, Ethernet has been deployed in Wide Area Network (WAN) as well as Local Area Network (LAN). Therefore Wide Area Ethernet is focused on as a high performance transport network. In Wide Area Ethernet network, an Ethernet Private Line (EPL) and an Ethernet Virtual Private line (EVPL) are major basic services. To realize EPL and EVPL, a connection is established by setting up Virtual LAN (VLAN). Therefore, the technique of setting up VLAN efficiently in a wide area is an important challenge.
