Layer 3 Switching for Secure Networks
Category: Security, Networking and Communications
Tags: network management, wan, routers, network, management
Overview The adoption of layer 3 switches with security functionality simplifies network management and reduces cost of ownership and can also provide resiliency. Enterprises also are benefiting from WAN access functionality in Layer 3 boxes, which enables them to be deployed at the network's edge, obviating the need for traditional WAN edge routers. The trade-off is that networks have to be designed better and staff trained on Layer 3 functionalities. However, the flexibility and scalability gained along with the added protection against costly break-ins or network crashes easily justify the investment.
