Hybrid Ethernet/SDH Transport Networks: A Multiservice Solution for IP/Ethernet Transport Services

Overview The next generation of Lucent Technologies transport solutions for access, metro, and backbone networks offers a full, multiservice portfolio. They can allow circuit or voice transport to be freely mixed with flexible data transport. These types of networks are easier and less expensive to manage than alternative solutions, such as separate fiber networks using different pieces of equipment in the access and metro networks. Furthermore, these solutions can facilitate a smooth migration to future converged networks; they are designed to maintain the advantages and investments in today's circuit networks, while allowing for more advanced data services. To accommodate the demand for these data services, equipment vendors are incorporating Ethernet technology into transport network systems.
