Virtual Private Networking: Secure Connections Through the Internet
Category: Security, Networking and Communications
Tags: vpn, wan, active directory, network
Overview Here's the scenario: one's organization has an office in two different cities, each with its own LAN. Both offices have good Internet connections, but there's no WAN connection between them. As the network administrator, one needs to set up a secure permanent network connection for file transfers, Active Directory replication, e-mail forwarding, and the like. How does one do it? One could use a leased line to set up a WAN, of course, but a far more economical solution is to leverage one's existing Internet connections at each office by setting up a Virtual Private Network (VPN). In this paper, one will learn how to set up their own LAN-to-LAN VPN.
