Delivering High-Quality Streaming Media Using Peer-2-Peer Networks
Category: Software and Web Development, Networking and Communications
Tags: network
Overview About 1% of all the information on the Internet is in the form of streaming media. Although this number seems relatively small, the amount of streams on the Internet is growing rapidly. Regular servers on the Internet cannot handle the stress induced by all the requests for high-quality streaming media and so a new form of delivery must be developed to deal with the growing demand. P2P (Peer to Peer) provides a perfect solution due to its load balancing and its easy use (participants may subscribe or unsubscribe to the network at will). This paper focuses on the requirements imposed by streaming media on P2P and what their impact is on P2P architectures.
