German Retail Giant Deploys Over 2,500 HP ProCurve Switches Throughout Its Stores

Overview OBI AG, Europe's leading home improvement retailer, operates more than 330 stores throughout Germany and more than 180 outlets in developing markets in Central and Eastern European countries. On top of upgrading the hardware and rolling out the newly developed applications throughout the store network, GfD had to address the technical requirements of the network infrastructures within the stores. The previous networking switches were not sufficiently intelligent to control the volume of data for business growth. In order to increase performance, reliability, availability and standardisation, OBI decided to benchmark the available network technologies from several well-known networking vendors. Axians NK Networks & Services, a local ProCurve Networking partner, represented HP during subsequent negotiations.
