DB2: Cloning a Database Using NetApp FlexClone Technology

Category: Storage, Data Management

Tags: database, data

Overview The ability to clone a DB2 database quickly and easily can be extremely valuable. For example, a duplicate copy of a production system can be used for development, testing, and problem analysis. FlexClone technology that is available on NetApp FAS or IBM N Series storage systems with Data ONTAP 7.0 or higher can be used to create an instantaneous point-in-time copy of a production database by creating an exact copy of the storage system volumes that are used to hold the database's data and transaction logs. Additionally, by using FlexClone technology, database's data do not have to be duplicated - cloned databases share data with the production database they were created from.
