General Packet Radio Service: GPRS

Overview General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) is a new service that provides packet radio access for users of Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) technology. It is truly a monumental step in the evolution of mobile communications towards data centric paradigm. The introduction of GPRS marks the first time a packet data technology is implemented in large scale in the circuit switched world of GSM. It is a key stepping stone in the transition to Third Generation (3G) mobile networks and beyond.
