Cellular wireless networks allow clients to roam from one wireless access point to another. In a large enough network, this could cause a client to enter a different subnet. Normally, this would cause an IP conflict; however, the use of the Mobile IP protocol creates a kind of forwarding address, enabling access points to reroute data across subnets. Mobile IP should not be used other than in especially large continuous wireless networks.
