Use of Cognitive Radio Techniques for OFDM Ultrawideband Coexistence With WiMax

Overview This paper explores the issues in coexistence between Broadband Fixed Wireless Access, also know as WiMax or 802.16e, and Ultrawideband (UWB), specifically the multiband OFDM form of UWB as promoted by the WiMedia trade group. A multiband OFDM receiver can operate as a channelized radiometer to detect emissions from WiMax systems, either in the uplink or downlink channel. By using well known detection techniques, signals can be detected to high levels of confidence. Once detected, the UWB system can adapt its spectral shape to minimize the energy received by the WiMax system.
