Overview The San Francisco Department of Public Works (SFDPW) Bureau of Engineering's mission is to provide planning, project development, design, and consulting services for city streets, infrastructure, and structures. The company wanted to increase technology assets to keep productivity high and costs low, maintaining a competitive edge over private engineering firms when bidding for city and county government contracts. The challenge was to create, manage, and share design and Geographic Information System (GIS) data efficiently and integrate GIS and engineering workflow more efficiently. The company deployed Oracle Database 10g to serve as SFDPW's spatial and attribute storage hub, improving GIS data storage and management and integrated GIS data into engineering workflow by using Oracle Database 10g, Autodesk Map 3D, and Autodesk MapGuide.
