802.11 - A Standard for the Present and Future

Overview This paper describes IEEE 802.11 standard. The 802.11 family of specifications and 802.1X for authentication build on strong existing standards such as EAP, RADIUS, LDAP, and others to meet these needs. Support for advanced EAP types such as TTLS and PEAP enable 802.1X-based products to serve as one proof point to demonstrate this strength and flexibility. As the functions of WLAN and telephony devices converge to deliver the ubiquity promised by wireless communications, the 802.11 specifications are positioned to play a significant role.
