The Peer-to-Peer Live Video Streaming for Handheld Devices
Category: Software and Web Development, Networking and Communications
Tags: bittorrent, series 60, applications
Overview With the increasing capabilities of handheld devices, this provides an opportunity for developing wide range of new applications. The Peer-to-Peer (P2P) application is one of such applications that has dominated the Internet in the past 10 years, thus it is natural to consider whether such applications can be explored using handheld devices. The earlier development and adaptation of the P2P technology in handheld devices focused on static content sharing protocols such as Gnuttela and BitTorrent. The Symella and SymTorrent are two of such examples, which were implemented on the Symbian platform for Nokia Series 60 devices. As handheld devices are getting increasingly popular to deliver multimedia content, there have been recent works describing how to provide streaming services to handheld devices.
