Effects of Handover on TCP Congestion Control Algorithms Over Mobile WiMAX

Overview This paper analyzes the performance characteristics of TCP congestion control algorithms such as TCP Westwood+, Veno and New Reno based on mobile WiMAX. Especially, this paper describes the effect of handover on the algorithms over mobile WiMAX networks. The ns-2 simulation results show that TCP Westwood+ and Veno are substantially better than New Reno up to 16.5% and 5.4% respectively. In addition, when one added a handover-aware algorithm to Westwood+, the performance was improved up to 17.8% in comparison to New Reno.
