Achieving Lower TCO: Notebook Computers With Embedded Mobile Broadband Modules

Overview The majority of the 54 million mobile workers in the United States today have come to rely on wireless devices and the underlying wireless voice and data networks to get their work done. Many of these mobile workers carry at least two types of mobile devices - primarily cell phones and notebooks. As compared to PC card-based deployments of notebooks to mobile workers, notebooks with embedded mobile broadband modules provide several tangible benefits: increased durability, faster connection speeds and lower cost. This paper examines those three benefits, explains the difference between WLANs and WWANs, PC card-based and embedded module-based notebooks and discusses the real cost savings that can be achieved by selecting notebooks with embedded modules.
