Swisscom Takes an Important Step Toward True Unified Communications

Overview Swisscom, Switzerland's leading telecommunications provider, manages a large number of internal telephony systems. A growing demand for Voice over IP (VoIP) technology has prompted the organization to find a true unified communications solution while minimizing the loss of its existing investments. Swisscom deployed Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005 and is currently migrating to Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007. This will result in a real-time communications environment for software-powered VoIP, which fits into the company's existing telephony and messaging infrastructure. People will be able to switch seamlessly between instant messaging, voice communication, and video transmission directly from their Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 interface. They can enjoy real-time collaboration with their colleagues and partners toll-free - a service that Swisscom plans to pass on to its customers.
