Sprint?Layer 2/Layer 3 Services Converged Over Common IP Backbone Via L2TPv3 in Cisco IOS Software

Overview A network convergence strategy expected to get top attention from service providers in the next few years is the ability to offer traditional Layer 2 transport protocols over a Layer 3 native Internet Protocol (IP) core. Sprint is among the first companies to test and deploy a key technology that makes this possible—Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol Version 3 (L2TPv3)—which is available in Cisco IOS ® Software Release 12.0(21)S or later and whose ratification by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) as a standard is expected by the end of 2003.
