Overview Swedish utility company Sundsvall Energi Elnat AB wants to provide the 123,000 residents of Sweden's Medelpad region with more than just electricity. ServaNet's goal is to be the region's leading communications provider, offering data connectivity, IP telephony, and multicast television services. ServaNet needed to upgrade its infrastructure. Its legacy network was based on core switches no longer serviced or supported by the manufacturer. After examining products from Cisco and Extreme, ServaNet chose 3Com systems for their reliability, ease of management, and power, as well as 3Com's reputation for solid support services. The company was especially impressed by the Switch 7700's 10-gigabit-ready architecture, security, and traffic prioritization - major assets for a fast-growing connectivity provider.
