Overview When the movement to adopt converged networks began, the conventional wisdom in the industry was that voice should be treated as just another application traversing over an IP network. While there is some validity to that argument, it ignores some of the unique characteristics associated with deploying Voice over IP (VoIP). For example, a VoIP deployment will result in a dramatic increase in the number and types of endpoints that access enterprise information and applications, and hence significantly increase the security vulnerabilities.
