Migration of Oracle Database 10g From Sun Servers to Dell Servers
Category: Data Management, Servers and Server OS, Networking and Communications
Tags: solaris, database, linux, operating systems, server, software
Overview Oracle Database software is available for many different operating systems and hardware platforms. Tools are included with Oracle Database that make it easy to move or migrate databases from one operating system or platform to another. In the new version of Oracle Database, Oracle Database 10g, some enhancements were made to these tools that improve the ability to migrate. In order to understand this process a team of Dell engineers migrated a 100 GB Oracle Database from a Sun server running the Solaris operating system to a Dell server running the Windows 2003 Server operating system and a Dell server running the Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating system. Details and best practices of the database migration are presented in this paper.
