Mainframe-to-Windows Move Speeds Agility Up to 300 Percent for Global Publisher

Overview Publishing giant Simon & Schuster needed to accelerate every aspect of its business, from authoring to getting books into the hands of customers. But it was still managing its order fulfillment and distribution processes on an aging mainframe that kept business processes slow, inflexible, and costly. So, the company ported its mainframe applications to Windows Server 2003 and the Microsoft .NET Framework. As a result, business processes are up to 300 percent faster, nightly batch windows are cut in half, trouble tickets for the system have plummeted by 75 percent, and overall IT costs are down 11 percent. Simon & Schuster now has a system that fulfils customers' last-minute orders quickly and effectively - and that boosts IT recruitment and retention, as well.
