Windows Server 2008 for Itanium-Based Systems Technical Overview
Category: Servers and Server OS
Tags: intel, windows server 2008, windows server, applications
Overview The Intel Itanium architecture provides one of the most reliable and scalable platforms currently available for mission-critical Windows Server deployments. Windows Server 2008 builds upon this inherent scalability and processing power to provide an ideal platform for enterprise-scale workloads such as large databases, Line-Of-Business (LOB) applications, and custom applications, including workloads migrating from RISC-based UNIX servers. Windows Server 2008 introduces a new edition specific to Itanium: Windows Server 2008 for Itanium-Based Systems. This edition raises the profile of Microsoft support for Itanium while focusing support on the workloads - databases, line-of-business applications, and custom applications - for which customers choose Itanium.
