Atrium Medical Centre Parkstad Achieves 24/7 Availability for Its Mission-Critical Hospital Applications

Overview Atrium Medical Centre Parkstad wanted to ensure the permanent availability of the third-party application from Boras, so that mission-critical hospital applications connected to Boras do not fail and prevent system failures which prevent more than 100 hospital staff from performing optimally as they have to revert to paper-based processes. The challenge was to achieve 24/7 availability at little additional cost in terms of operating system and hardware investment and ensure third-party software will continue to be useful in the future. Atrium Medical Centre Parkstad implemented Oracle Real Application Clusters to ensure that the Boras hospital application is available 24/7 and replaced OpenVMS with Linux - generating significant savings in operating system costs, enabling the installation of standard HP servers, and lowering hardware licensing and maintenance costs.
