Hosting Service Provider Simplifies Site Migration, Saves Money With Virtual Servers

Overview RackForce is a hosting service provider based in Canada. In 2005, it found that Web- and application-hosting customers were using only 20 percent of the company's server capacity. Additionally, customers that outgrew server resources often had re-configuration problems for weeks after moving to more powerful hardware. To address both issues, RackForce began offering a hosting service on multicore Intel Xeon servers using Intel Virtualization Technology and running Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1. Now, each physical server can be divided into multiple virtual servers running Windows Server 2003. Customers can move from one server to another with no downtime or painful reconfiguration. RackForce has also increased server utilization to 80 percent and cut hardware and support costs.
