National IT Center Improves Customer Service With High-Performance Compute Cluster
Category: Software and Web Development, Servers and Server OS
Tags: os, windows server, linux, operating systems, software, data
Overview The High Performance Computing Center Stuttgart (HLRS) delivers computer simulations and three-dimensional visualizations for academic institutions and business enterprises. HLRS designed its own software that ran only on Linux-based systems, and customers with Windows operating systems had difficulty working with the application and its data. To help its customers, HLRS installed two systems based on the Windows Server 2003 Datacenter Edition and Windows Compute Cluster Server 2003 operating systems. The center also modified its software to run on Windows-based client devices. Now customers get results faster with a familiar, intuitive interface and can quickly make changes to complex simulations. They can also reduce overhead with a more streamlined technology environment. Finally, HLRS expects more business from the growing number of researchers who use Microsoft technology.
