A First Step Towards Autonomous Clustered J2EE Applications Management

Overview A J2EE application server is composed of four tiers: a web front-end, a servlet engine, an EJB server and a database. Clusters allow for replication of each tier instance, thus providing an appropriate infrastructure for high availability and scalability. Clustered J2EE application servers are built from clusters of each tier and provide the J2EE applications with a transparent view of a single server. However, such applications are complex to administrate and often lack deployment and reconfiguration tools. This paper presents JADE, a java-based environment for clustered J2EE applications deployment. JADE is the first attempt of providing a global environment that allows deploying J2EE applications on clusters.
